Support is a great need at Christmas

2010-12-21 Hassela Helpline

At major hollidays worried parents needs someone to talk with. Hassela Helpline have extended opening hours for parents and relatives who who worry that a young person is moving into drogabuse or criminality.

- The need to have someone to talk to is great as unrest creeps in and we have therefore chosen to be accessible by chat and phone on Christmas Day, between Christmas, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day says Ralph Berger Torres.

Addiction among schoolchildren is increasing and for the first time in nine years, the proportion of ninth graders who have tried drugs (CAN 2009). Therefore, the need is increasing too for support for families of at-risk youth. Hassela Helpline is already well aware of the vulnerable situation that many parents find themselves in.

- Many people feel more alone with their problems during major holidays. They do not want to talk even with his closest friends of this type of problem and therefore they contact us says Ralph.

Hassela Helpline is staffed mainly by volunteers, thanks to the commitment contained in volunteers can Hassela Helpline allow a wide access. During Christmas, Hassela Helpline is staffed in Swedish, Spanish and English.
