DB2 for z/OS Data Sharing Recovery and Restart

This 2-day lecture-only course is designed to assist you in planning, setting up, and implementing a recovery procedure for both local and disaster recovery for a DB2 for z/OS data sharing installation. Recovery processes for DB2 disaster recovery and Coupling Facility recovery processes are covered.

Note: DB2 Data sharing implementation is discussed briefly as an overview on the first day. The implementation procedures are discussed fully in detail in:

  • DB2 9 for z/OS Data Sharing Implementation (CV410), no labs OR
  • DB2 9 for z/OS Data Sharing Implementation Workshop (CV450), which includes lab exercises.

If you are enrolling in a Self Paced Virtual Classroom or Web Based Training course, before you enroll, please review the Self-Paced Virtual Classes and Web-Based Training Classes on our Terms and Conditions page, as well as the system requirements, to ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements for this course.

Målgrupp

This lecture-only advanced course is for DB2 professionals - system programmers, and DBAs, as well as other z/OS support personnel responsible for local and disaster recovery.

The course labs are performed on a DB2 9 for z/OS system, but the course is appropriate for those working in a DB2 10 for z/OS system also.

Kursinnehåll

Data Sharing Overview

  • Describe the major components of DB2 data sharing
  • List the hardware requirements for data sharing
  • Describe the DB2 mechanisms for providing: Global data integrity and Global consistency
  • Describe the recovery implications of data sharing

z/OS Sysplex Availability and Recovery

  • Determine the availability implications of hardware and software configurations of a z/OS Parallel Sysplex
  • Name the hardware and software components that can influence sysplex recovery
  • Configure these components to achieve the desired recovery actions
  • List the CFRM, SFM, and ARM policy parameters that are essential for recovery and restart

Sysplex and Data Sharing Commands

  • Determine the active policies of a sysplex
  • Display details about the Coupling Facilities and structures of a sysplex
  • Display detailed information about data sharing groups and their members
  • Display detailed information for group buffer pools

Database Recovery Environment

  • List the changes that have been implemented in DB2 to support database recovery in a data sharing environment. These changes affect: The Bootstrap Data Set (BSDS), Catalog and Directory tables, The log, and Utilities
  • Perform a database recovery in a data sharing environment

DB2 Restart

  • Describe the phases of a normal DB2 restart in a data sharing environment
  • Point out the changes for a normal DB2 restart as a consequence of data sharing
  • Describe what group restart is and when it is performed
  • Describe the phases of a group restart
  • Summarize the implications of data sharing on DB2 conditional restarts

Sysplex Failures: CPC and Sysplex Timer

  • Identify CPC and sysplex timer failures
  • Describe the system actions performed for CPC and sysplex timer failures
  • Recover from CPC and sysplex timer failures

Sysplex Failures: SCA and DB2 Lock Structure

  • Identify sysplex failures for the SCA or the DB2 lock structure
  • Describe the system actions performed for sysplex failures for the SCA or the DB2 lock structure
  • Recover from sysplex failures for the SCA or the DB2 lock structure

Sysplex Failures: Group Buffer Pools

  • Identify sysplex failures for group buffer pools
  • Describe the system actions performed for sysplex failures for group buffer pools
  • Recover from sysplex failures for group buffer pools

Data Sharing Non-Sysplex Failures

  • Identify non-sysplex failures
  • Describe the system actions performed for non-sysplex failures
  • Recover from non-sysplex failures

Data Sharing Disaster Backup and Recovery

  • Describe different methods of disaster backup and recovery
  • Describe how the data sharing group must be configured at the recovery site
  • Perform the preparatory backup for a disaster recovery at the local site
  • Describe the steps involved in a disaster recovery
  • Point out the differences for the disaster recovery procedure for data sharing
  • Prepare and test a disaster recovery for a data sharing group at the recovery site if you already performed a disaster recovery for a single DB2 subsystem

Disabling and Reenabling Data Sharing

  • Describe the consequences of disabling data sharing
  • Disable data sharing in a test environment
  • Reenable data sharing after you have disabled it
