eHSPA-Evolved High Speed Packet Access

eHSPA-Evolved High Speed Packet Access

The eHSPA–Evolved High Speed Packet Access course provides a detailed description of the UTRAN layer 1 and layer 2 protocol functionality introduced in 3GPP Release 5 (HSDPA) and Release 6 (HSUPA). Special focus is on the new Medium Access Control protocol entities (MAC-hs, MAC-ehs, MAC-e, MAC-es, MAC-i, MAC-is) and on the usage, coding and timing of the new physical channels (e.g. HS-SCCH, HS-DPCCH, E-AGCH, E-RGCH). The Hybrid-ARQ (HARQ) functionality for both downlink and uplink is described in detail. A description of various HSPA downlink/uplink packet-scheduling mechanisms is also included. Selected HSPA signalling flows (RRC and NBAP) are described in detail (parameter level).

The course also covers the functionality introduced in 3GPP Releases 7—9 under the name Evolved HSPA (eHSPA).

High Speed Packet Access Introduction

  • HSDPA/HSUPA: reason to be
  • HSDPA/HSUPA basic concepts and principles
  • Comparison of radio resource handling and adaptation in UMTS, HSDPA, and HSUPA
  • Summary of features added in different 3GPP releases
  • Available UL/DL bitrates in different releases
  • Terminal Capabilities
  • UE categories defined for HSDPA and HSUPA

eHSPA Medium Access Control Protocols
