The UMTS Radio Interface course is focusing onthe physical layer of the UMTS radio access as defined in the release 5, 6 and 7 of 3GPP Standards. From Release 5 onwards, High Speed Downlink Packet access has been an inseparable part of UMTS air interface. The course tries to build up the concepts of UMTS WCDMA based air interface and later introduces the changes that occurred with HSDPA (release 5), HSUPA (release 6) and Evolved HSPA (release 7).
It provides an understanding of the WCDMA access method and how the generation and allocation of codes are handled in UMTS. Further, the different types of channels used in the UMTS radio access are discussed as well as the physical channels. The various physical layer procedures such as cell search, random access, packet access, dedicated channels establishment and power control are described.
Release 7 focuses on the improvement of HSPA standard towards higher data rates, lower delays and lower consumption of UE battery power. These features are discussed in the eHSPA section of the Course.

The UMTS Radio Interface training course has been developed for telecom professionals working with project and product management, system engineering, hardware and software development, testing and verification, network planning and operations engineering.

Swedish-based and operating globally, Apis Technical Training AB is one of the world's leading training providers in the mobile telecoms sector. From in-depth technical courses about GSM/GPRS, UMTS and EPS technologies, to seminars spotlighting topical telecom industry issues, Apis competence building training programs are geared to meet the needs of the mobile telecoms operators, system vendors and consultants throughout the world.
Apis uses Apis Dynamic Training Method™ in all courses to ensure that our students maximise their acquisition and retention of knowledge; The content of all Apis training courses is graphically represented in a mind mapping type format and is completed by the student layer by layer, and chapter by chapter, under leadership of an Apis certified instructor. This highly interactive approach has proven highly successful and is superior to the traditional methods of training such as using large number of Powerpoint slides. Apis Dynamic Training Methodology™ ensures that our customers get maximum returns on their investments in training activities for competence development.
